Jason hated the Go-Gos.
It didnt have anything to with their music or who they were; it was just that at a certain point in his life, he hated everything his sister liked. NOT liking things she enjoyed seemed to be the best way to annoy her, therefore, the Go-Gos, Journey, Boy George, and much of the popular music of the time, were all categorized as music Jason simply wouldnt tolerate. In an effort to ensure a high level of sibling discord, Jason made sure that his AC/DC, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden LPs were played really loud his sister hated "the Heavy Metal".
At an even earlier age, Jason's mother had raised his sister and him on the music of the great Neil Diamond. His sister, being a few years his senior, started branching into the realm of listening to whatever other kids her age enjoyed listening to but it wasnt Neil Diamond, and Jason didnt care for it. Yes this young man had been raised on porcupine pie and was not about to change his tastes due to the whims of the masses. A young man of musical integrity was in the making. In Jason's own words, "If my sister liked it, I made sure I didnt."
Jason focused on Neil all through his adolescence. He vowed one day he would play drums in Neils band. Then Jason hit junior high; or rather, junior high hit Jason. Angus Young and K.K. Downings guitars were a revolution for his ears. He was trying to hold on to Neil, but his friends just wouldnt accept it. Jason succumbed to the peer pressure, which would later be used to get him into We Got The Meat, and turned his back on the man...... who was, he said.
Jason's evolution in musical taste continued with the influence of his older brother. Secretly, Jason still clung to the idea of playing with the mighty Neil, but the music of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Replacements, and Jane's Addiction were more seductive. Plus, Jason had an idea that he wanted to be "cool". Then, the older wiser brother dropped the biggest bomb on Jason yet and made him listen to Bob Dylan. The musical taste in Jasons life was forever changed. It was a Hot August Night, when Jason finally realised that many musical worlds coud exist in one mind. "Our little Jason is all growds up", said his brother. To this day, Hot August Night is still one of his favorite records of all time.
While dreaming of supporting Neil on stage, Jason played in a couple of Portland area bands called the Dizzy Pilots, Natural Disasters and Stain. Currently he drums for the superb singer/songwriter, David Turner, in the Grass Verge.
Tim & Trappe approached Jason with the idea of WGTM. He was a little hesitant at first, but remembering back to that fateful August, when his brother opened his eyes to Dylan, he agreed to give it a try. He now claims, Wow, Gina is a fantastic drummer. The Go-Gos wrote great material. Ive grown into a big fan and am honored to be a part of WGTM.
